The Dangers of Purchasing Fake Make-Up Products

I recently stumbled upon a video made by Refinery29 about the fake products that are sold on the streets in the USA. In the video they mentioned some shocking ingredients that can be found in all these fake products, which prompted me to do a little research on the dangers of using these products.

If you are like me, and like browsing your local China Mall, you will be well aware of the fact that these stores stocks fake products. One more then one occasion, I have been tempted to by a Kylie Lip Kit or an Urban Decay palette from one of these stores. (Thank goodness I haven't)

I think firstly we need to look at how to spot the fake.

The biggest giveaway will have to be the labels. They are almost always, faded, skew, or have some sort of misspelled word on it.

Most of the time, the packaging will also not be of the same quality as the real deal.

Now we spotted the fakes, but what actually happens when you decide to give your bank balance a break, and give in to the fakes. You will be shocked.......

1. Allergic reactions

Remember, these products are never put through any form of quality control. The people who make these fake products, are just after the money. They absolutely have no worry in the world when it comes to the ingredients, they just want the products to look as close to the real thing as possible. And most of the time, we beauty junkies, can get an allergic reaction to these ingredients, and sometimes these reactions could be quite severe. (I will rather not post any of the pictures that I have found online, as I was really disturbed by it.)

2. Bacteria

Fake make-up is full of bacteria. Most of the time, these products are produced in someone's back room or garage, and the environment is never clean. You will not eat your lunch there, so why will you put these products on your face??? These bacteria can cause eye infections and skin rashes.

3. Arsenic

I read and article, where the Daily Mail, bought some fake products one ebay and had them tested. The result: Arsenic.... Now for those of you who didn't know, Arsenic is poisonous to humans. It can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea.

4. You are fueling criminal activity

If you don't but fake products, these criminals will not be motivated to produce them. You are giving them a reason to continue. Make Up Brands put a lot of work and money into their products. Rather support them to ensure you are receiving a product of exceptional standards!

So, taking all this into account, is it really worth saving a few bucks and putting your health in danger?

Lots of love

Sassy Mommy
